Customer Service Speaker Discusses Hotel Tipping Policies Go to to learn more about Shep Hyken, customer service speaker and expert. For a blog post of this video, visit: Professional speaker and New York Times bestselling author, Shep Hyken, discusses a hotel tipping policy gone wrong.

Important: This video is not about tipping etiquette. This is an observation of a very nice hotel that left a bad impression. So, hang in there with me. There?s a point at the end of the story. Here in the United States we?re expected to tip people for good service.

Standard gratuity for a server at a restaurant is 15%. If the server does a great job, many times people tip 20%. At hotels we tip the doorman who gets you a cab, the bellman who carries your bags to your room, and others who help you along the way.

So, what about the housekeeping staff? These are the people that make your bed, clean your room, and make sure you have clean towels. And when do you do tip? At the beginning of the stay?

Some have said that TIP means? To Insure Promptness (or Performance)? However my research indicates that this may be a myth. Still, I usually tip the hotel?s housekeeping staff a few dollars a day. Recently I stayed at a nice hotel and was upgraded to a beautiful suite. On the nightstand there was an envelope that had instructions on tipping the housekeeper. I first thought this was a bit presumptuous, but I went with it. I was staying for three nights so I put a twenty dollar bill in the envelope and wrote a note that said,?Thank you for taking care of me during my stay at your hotel.

The next day I came back to the room and noticed that the envelope had been taken and there was a new, fresh white envelope, waiting for another tip. What was missing was a note that said,?Thank you.? At least something that indicated the housekeeper got and appreciated the tip.

At checkout the front desk clerk asked me how my stay was. I told her great, but I did have one issue. Books for Teens: 60second Book Review by Jenny Sawyer. Tink's life stinks. She's got two obnoxious older brothers, a best friend who may not be such a friend after all, AND Tink is grounded. Luckily for us readers, Tink has a plan: She'll tell her own story in encyclopedia format, starting with Aa (some kind of lava) and ending with Zoo. If the encyclopedia format sounds distracting.well, it is, at least a little.

But it also makes for a pretty humorous telling of Tink's already humorous tale of growing up and dealing with best friends, first romances, and big brothers. Any middle schooler (or 13-year-old at heart) will probably get a kick of Tink's misadventures and cheer her on as she discovers who she really is. Books for Teens (of all ages): •. Would or Used To Learn English Linguaspectrum Learn More: British English Pronunciation Course: Index of Daily Doses: Whether to use would or used to to talk about the past confuses many students. This Daily Dose of English is an attempt to explain it as concisely as possible. It uses some examples to help you understand when to use would or used to. I used to live in England before I came to Spain.

I used to play chess on Fridays at school. I used to hate spiders. Those are all finished situations in the past., and we use used to. I used to live in England.

I used to play chess. I used to hate spiders. Can we use would with any of those?

With the first one, which is a continuous situation, I used to live in England, we cannot use would. With the second one. I used to play chess. We can use would. Because it's a repeated action or situation that is finished in the past. So we can use would.

I would play chess on Fridays at school. Can we use would with. I used to hate spiders?

Did I hate spiders repeatedly? Over and over? No, I just hated them, full stop, for a long period of time. So we can't use would in that situation. We can only say. I used to hate spiders. So, used to is for continuous actions and situations that are finished in the past.

It's also for repeated actions and situations that are finished in the past. Whereas would can only be used for repeated actions and situations in the past. To give you an idea of how fast it is growing in two days of uploads it would take more than a decade to view all the video. YouTube also boasts over 700,000 educational videos in its EDU channel. From a learning standpoint we estimate there is more knowledge on YouTube than has ever been in one location in human history. Buy Audax Drivers more.

While this leads to a lot of opportunity it can also be very overwhelming. We made creating a class on Teachem so simple it only take 30 seconds to get started. We also took it one step further than just creating a class. First you create a school.

Call it the School of Entrepreneurship. Then you can create as many classes as you want in that school by adding time-stamped flashcards and review questions to the videos. We believe teachem can do the same for teaching as blogging did for publishing.

That is open it up to the masses. Unlike other online learning platforms you are not primarily creating a class for a main catalog, but instead for your own school. The Beginning of Everything -- The Big Bang How did everything get started? Has the universe a beginning or was it here since forever? Well, evidence suggests that there was indeed a starting point to this universe we are part of right now. But how can this be? How can something come from nothing? And what about time? We don't have all the answers yet so let's talk about what we know.

Also, we try to make this one not depressing. Tell us if we succeeded. Www.Kurzgesagt.org BY THE WAY. We have a website now. The Beginning of Everything -- The Big Bang Help us caption & translate this video! The History of the English Language The History of the English Language Most people know that the English language is spoken by many millions of people around the world. However, few people are aware of the history of the English language. Today, English is one language, but in some ways it is a mixture of many different languages.

The English language is most closely related to a group of languages called the Germanic languages. This group also includes languages such as German and Dutch. About 1500 years ago, these languages were not yet distinct from each other. Some of the people of Germany and the Netherlands then moved to England. Those people were called the Anglo-Saxons, and their language then evolved into English.

Most of the basic words of the English language are derived from these very old Anglo-Saxon languages. For example, the words for the parts of the body, for numbers, and for animals are mostly Anglo-Saxon words. Some new words were brought to England over 1000 years ago by people who came from the Scandinavian countries of northern Europe.

Many words that begin with the letters 'sk', such as skin and skill, are Scandinavian words. A major change happened in the English language after the year 1066. In that year, England was conquered by a king from the northern part of France. He and his followers spoke French, so French became an important language in England. During the next few hundred years, the English language absorbed a very large number of French words. In fact, today's English dictionaries contain more words of French origin than of Anglo- Saxon origin.

Part of the reason why the English language has so many words is that it often has two words for each idea-one word of Anglo-Saxon origin, and one word of French origin. Many more words entered the English language a few hundred years ago, when science and technology became more widespread. Most scientific and technical words are derived from words of the ancient languages of Latin and Greek. But during the day, she shelves books at the local library, trying to not let anyone know that she can do things?things like change the color of her eyes or walk through walls. Colonizing America: Crash Course US History #2 In which John Green teaches you about the (English) colonies in what is now the United States. He covers the first permanent English colony at Jamestown, Virginia, the various theocracies in Massachusetts, the feudal kingdom in Maryland, and even a bit about the spooky lost colony at Roanoke Island.

What were the English doing in America, anyway? Lots of stuff. In Virginia, the colonists were largely there to make money. In Maryland, the idea was to create a a colony for Catholics who wanted to be serfs of the Lords Baltimore. In Massachusetts, the Pilgrims and Puritans came to America to find a place where they could freely persecute those who didn't share their beliefs.

But there was a healthy profit motive in Massachusetts as well. Profits were thin at first, and so were the colonists. Trouble growing food and trouble with the natives kept the early colonies from success.

Before long though, the colonists started cultivating tobacco, which was a win for everyone involved if you ignore the lung cancer angle. So kick back, light up a smoke, and learn how America became profitable. DON'T SMOKE, THOUGH! THAT WAS A JOKE!
