Hey everyone, im new to these forums but not to apple. I've had the iphone ever since it came out.

Wish i could afford the macbook but thats another problem. Anyway, i am havin a ton of problems with my iphone getting software corruption. I have the iphone 4 and will be upgrading to the 5 on the 21st. And i dont want to have to rish my 5's life with this problem. I've had multiple genius' help me restore my iphone and set up as new due to these problems. One genius said it was because i didnt close out of the multi-tasking every once and a while. So i did that at the end of every day or every week and then a few months later, i got the issues back.

Restored it again and it was fine for a while. Now i have them again. I couldnt sync up with icloud and after the new restore, it will allow me to sync up to icloud.

My exact question is, how am i getting my software corrupted and also, how can i save my 5 from getting it too?? Little information - iphone 4 16gb. Syncing with a PC on windows 7 and i have the latest software updates on my iphone and my itunes. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! IPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1 Posted on Sep 17, 2012 1:53 PM. Sorry for being a little vague with that.

I notice that my phone gets slower and glitchy. The stock messages app will freeze and sometimes will show me a list of everything my gf has responded back to me but not what i've sent over the past month. So i close it out and re-open and it looks normal.

The home button will freeze. It will not allow me to exit the app. Sometimes taking up to 15 clicks before moving. Overall just freezes and glitches. The latest instance was that it would NOT sync up to icloud. I had my phone plugged in to itunes, on wi-fi, and locked and it never did an auto-sync and would never complete a forced icloud backup.

I took it into the genius bar and the tech said that icloud wasnt even showing my stock camera roll or 'photos' app. After i wiped it and started as new phone, it allowed it to backup to icloud.

I took it in twice before and they ran a diagnostic test on it and told me it has a software corruption and that i would have to completely wipe the phone and start as new to be able to get rid of my glitches. And that i could not restore to a backup because of course that would bring my glitches right back on to my phone. Also, i dont have a crap load of apps on it either. Maybe 20 plus the stock iphone apps.

Hopefully that helps a little better. If there is any other info, ill be glad to divulge whatever you need to know.

I wanna make sure my i5 will be safe! Sep 17, 2012 5:24 PM. I restored it as new, synced contacts with outlook and started off brand new. It would work fine for a month, maybe more. Then get glitchy and slow again. Thats when the genius said to restore again. Then the same cycle happened again.

Restored and started as new phone. Now did it for a 3rd time. (i was trying to back up to icloud and it wouldnt let me so i took it in. And the genius said it was software corruption again.). So now i am on the 3rd restore and clean slate. Sep 17, 2012 5:45 PM. Are you closing the multitasking bar?

Double click the home button. Touch one of the icons in the bottom bar that pulled up until it shakes. There should be minuses in the corners now (x's delete).

Tap on all the minuses then press the home button once to exit. Then Restart or Reset, power off then on by holding top power / sleep button for 5 seconds.

Putting it to sleep is not the same. Reset is sleep button and home button for 5 seconds if power off fails to help. You should power off and close multitasking at least once every three days. Sep 17, 2012 5:56 PM. Hi, I just got back from Apple Store Genius Bar last night and have some insight on this. I have the iPhone 5 right now and I always felt my battery life was crap and phone was sluggish since my iphone 4, and also 4s.

I suspected there was an issue, but when they ran diagnostics on my phone back then, they said it was on the border of being a problem. But the key is there is a diagnostics tool they run.

So yesterday, when I took my new iPhone 5 in after 2 months, they ran the diagnostics (cause I complained and I had taken a screenshot of the 30 minute wait I was there and my battery had drained over 8% as proof). What the tool shows is problems/crashes with your phone and the apps that cause the crashses. If it shows that iOS apps (like safari, address book, etc) cause the crashes, more than likely it's corrupt software (the guy even used that word). It was likely continued on from phone to phone because of the software/iPhone restore each time and it carried the issue over. Here's the problem - the only way to really fix this is to do a clean wipe and readd all your stuff manually (and not restore from backup). This will wipe everything clean and you will lose your SMS messages etc. If you don't care about that stuff, then just do a clean/new phone install and just manually readd all your settings, mail accounts, redownload apps, etc.

As for the SMS issue, I'm looking into some SMS backup/restore ( ) but it's taking some time to backup so I can report once I get it working. But definitely you are right about software corruption - just take it into Genius Bar to verify. Dec 6, 2012 8:21 AM.
